Since the 2018-19 season, the professional team that uses the Belenenses name has been treated by the media and organizers of football competitions in Portugal as "Belenenses SAD". This is due to a dispute between the club (CF Os Belenenses) and the holding company that owns the majority of the SAD. The club and the SAD broke away, with the club creating a football team that now plays at the Lisbon regional championships, and the professional club being forced to move out of the Estádio do Restelo and playing at the Jamor Estádio Nacional. This breakaway also led the club to sue the SAD for infrigement of intellectual property, and the SAD has been forced to stop using the Belenenses name and any other symbol/logo deemed property of the club. This situation is somewhat similar to what happened in Romania with Steaua.
